WhatsApp soon to give you a devastating experience

Confirmed: WhatsApp to Display Ads Inside the Status Tab Very Soon

The Facebook-owned messaging app also promises to invest $250,000 in the top five winners of "WhatsApp Startup Challenge" in a seed round.

Web Desk: After Facebook, WhatsApp is implementing ads into the app interface, reported The Economic Times.

The Status tab is effectively a version of Snapchat's Stories where users can post videos, images or GIFs that disappear after 24 hours.

But it sucks from a user's perspective since it means you're going to get unwanted ads while looking at your friends' statuses, and it will likely put off more than one user from looking at statuses. Unfortunately, WhatsApp vice-president Chris Daniels confirmed with Outlook India that the messaging service's opposition to ads would soon come to an end. In markets like Kenya where WhatsApp is used more than Facebook or Instagram, serving ads on this platform would make more sense for advertisers than any other platform.

"WhatsApp for Business" is free, allowing companies to link users directly into a chat with them from their website or social media.

Trump Tweets Controversial Video of Immigrant Cop Killer
Many recalled the infamous " Willie Horton " campaign ad from the 1988 presidential election between George H.W. The expletive-filled video was immediately denounced by some Democrats and Republicans alike as racist .

No timeline was given, but a report from this summer said ads would begin sometime in 2019.

Back in September, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton revealed that Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg had monetization plans for the messaging service before the purchase was even complete.

The move makes ideal sense from a business perspective: as we said before, the app was not generating any revenue, and Facebook wants to make money from it.

We can presume that the targeted ads will not compromise WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption and collect data from the app directly.
