Raiders acquire first-round selection, trade wide receiver Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper is heading to the Dallas Cowboys. More

The Dallas Cowboys have made a major trade to bolster their beleaguered wide receiver group. Cooper has been rumored to be a trade target, with the Cowboys reportedly "gathering information" on the player, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cooper is entering his fifth-year option next season. Cooper has just 22 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown this season.

The trade of Cooper makes it clear the Raiders are blowing things up and restarting in year one of the new Jon Gruden era.

Elliott rushed 15 times for 33 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Washington Redskins. Through seven games, they rank 29th in passing offense with 183.1 yards per game.

The Eagles had been mention as possibly having interest in the talented wide receiver, but now their focus will shift to game planning to stop Cooper, whom the Eagles will face twice in the next five weeks. Dallas is an obvious fit for the 24-year-old wideout, as the team now ranks 29th in the National Football League with just 202.4 receiving yards per game and has no legitimate receiving threats to speak of after releasing Bryant and losing Jason Witten to retirement this offseason. His production that followed in the six games following that eruption a year ago amounted to a measly 18 catches for 146 yards and one touchdown. The Raiders, coming off a bye week, are 1-5 as they head into a Week 8 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. In exchange, they received the Cowboys' first-round pick in the 2019 draft. When it was revealed last week that the Raiders were trying to get rid of their former first-round pick, a two-time Pro Bowler, the Cowboys went to work.
