Rotating strikes possible if Canada Post deal isn't reached by midnight

CTV Montreal Canada Post labour dispute

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will start rotating strikes at midnight tonight in Windsor.

Strike notice was issued by the union last week if a deal failed to be reached and the locations of the strikes were announced Sunday afternoon. Management, however, says that in the affected cities, mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up.

Canada Post spokesman Jon Hamilton said on Sunday that in the event of rotating strikes normal mail delivery would be maintained in all other locations across the country.

That's why the looming Canada Post strike has Canadians anxious about what they should expect come Monday. They will also hit Edmonton, Victoria, B.C. and Halifax.

During this negotiation period, postal workers say their key demands have been job security, an end to forced overtime and overburdening, better health and safety measures, service expansion and equality for rural and suburban mail carriers.

Films such as " Get Out ", "A Quiet Place" and "It" have all surprised Hollywood in recent years with big box office totals. Amandla Stenberg features as Starr Carter, a teenager who witnesses the wrongful shooting of her friend by a police officer.

While the strike is looming close to the deadline the Canada Post has confirmed that they do have an offer on the table that involves wage increases, job security, plus improved benefits from before.

The union's release also states that it's been negotiating agreements with Canada Post for nearly a year for the Urban Postal Operations and Rural Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) bargaining units.

Hamilton said that they value the relationship with the union and want to address their concern by committing to an annual volume review of each route so they can make adjustments.

He says they remain committed to negotiating a deal. "We have also addressed numerous concerns raised by the union and offered to work together constructively to find solutions", Canada Post's statement read.

The strike is the result of ongoing negotiations regarding workers rights at Canada Post.
