Halloween

Reuniting Jamie Lee Curtis and the world created by horror filmmaker John Carpenter, the film collected an estimated $77.5 million in theaters in the USA and Canada, ComScore Inc. said in an email Sunday. Jamie Lee Curtis responded to the box office numbers with a tweet that also mentions that Halloween is the biggest opening for a horror movie with a female lead and the biggest start for any movie with a female lead over 55.

Forty years after he first appeared in theaters, Michael Myers is still drawing huge audiences for a good scare. According to reports, the latest installment of the franchise earned approximately $77.5 million in ticket sales at the domestic box office.

As already mentioned, Halloween's $77.5 million three-day debut was the second largest October opening weekend of all-time, coming less than $3 million shy of the record set by Venom earlier this month. The studio had expected an opening north of $50 million. The previous record? A mere $26 million for the 2007 Rob Zombie reboot of the same name. The film's opening is also the second largest ever for an R-rated horror, topping the $53.8 million opening for The Nun a month ago and behind It's $123.4 million debut last September.
