Chelsea v Man United: 3 things we learned

Jose Mourinho reacts to a member of Chelsea's backroom staff celebrating a stoppage time equaliser in front of him

Chelsea snatched out a draw against Manchester United in a four-goal thriller on Saturday.

Antonio Rudiger's first-half goal had been an emblem of the domination as Paul Pogba left the Germany worldwide unchallenged to head home from an easy chance as his side were cruising.

While the Italian was accepting of the result, he was left to rue Chelsea's tactical lapse which played into United's hands in the second half.

And David Luiz, who played under Mourinho during the Portuguese manager's time in charge at Stamford Bridge, hit out at United's tactics.

There remain several stylistic and tactical problems in this team but the desire of each player to give everything on the pitch is certainly there.

Mourinho's task for this season will be to devise a way he can harness the same level of panache and pace going forward which was seen at Stamford Bridge.

It ended with Mourinho involved in scuffles with one of Sarri's staff but both coaches sought to diffuse the row, with Mourinho saying he had accepted an apology and Sarri saying he had also admonished the staff member.

He also didn't need to hit back at the Chelsea fans, but when you throw away three points you so desperately want with nearly the last kick of the game, it would be testing the resolve of anyone, never mind someone as emotional as Mourinho.

"This season, for Sarri to come in and only make one or two change, Mateo Kovacic I think has been a huge acquisition for them and Jorginho have fitted in seamlessly. We were in the wrong on the situation". He said: "We are not organised like this". 'However, we worked hard and this sort of match enabled us to show that we are a good team. I have made a lot of mistakes in my career, especially when I was young like him.

The former Monaco man was disappointed to concede so late but hopes their improving performances will stand them in good stead against Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday. "I want to play with short passes".

The England worldwide was unleashed with 20 minutes to play and was tasked with earning the Blues all three points. In the second half we managed to transform that on occasions in goals, in ambition, in free-flow play with good intensity, good passing, good quality. I don't want to go for the second ball. They carried more menace in the second half, but their inability to deal with the first ball, second ball or even third ball was grotesque when it mattered most.
