BMW announces X7 flagship SUV

2018 BMW X7 revealed: luxury V8 goliath

So much so that it's the largest and heaviest vehicle that BMW has ever produced!

Something tells us though, that few consumers out there are shopping for a sports vehicle with seven seats.

Ordinarily, the X7's boot holds 326 litres with all seats left up.

Topline: The BMW X7, which boasts three rows of seating and capacity for up to six passengers, represents one of the luxury automaker's biggest undertakings of recent times and aims to compete in a segment now dominated by the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, and Audi.

The regular version has seven seats, although there's an optional two-seat layout in the middle for those needing more comfort.

The two passengers in the third row settle into full-size seats complete with armrests, cupholders and USB ports. All in all, this is a feature-packed cabin, with large 12.3-inch twin screen panels that enhance the X7's tech quotient. On the other hand, five-zone automatic climate control, ambient air package, panorama glass roof sky lounge, controls with glass applications, Bowers & Wilkins diamond surround sound and rear-seat entertainment are optional.

The 2019 BMW X7 Is the Biggest Bimmer SUV Ever

The line-up of engines available at launch comprises a 340 kW petrol V8 in the BMW X7 xDrive50i, a six-cylinder in-line petrol unit with an output of 250 kW for the BMW X7 xDrive40i and a pair of six-cylinder in-line diesels with outputs of 195 kW in the BMW X7 xDrive30d and 294 kW in the BMW X7 M50d. This comes four years after the SUV was first announced back in 2014 and here's all you need to know about the first-ever X7.

When the auto is launched in the UAE next year, the Middle East region will get the BMW X7 xDrive40i to kick off the range, with a 3.0-litre straight-six producing 340 horsepower and 450Nm of torque. The inline-six produces 335bhp while the larger V8 churns out 456bhp. The lower tune produces 265bhp and the higher tune churns out 400bhp.

Both engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission and have all-wheel-drive as an option.

Adaptive dampers and air springs are standard, and the X7 offers a variety of driving modes that alter the ride height and powertrain tuning and, in Sport mode, can even change the all-wheel-drive system to be more rear biased. An "off-road package" will furthermore be available for all model variants aside from the M50d. Adding the X7 to its portfolio forms part of the BMW Group's ongoing model offensive in the luxury segment, which is itself a key element in the company's NUMBER ONE NEXT strategy. The 2019 BMW X7 is manufactured at BMW plant in SC and the plant also produces X3, X4, X5 and X6.

Since the X7 is an SUV, it comes with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. However, if the SUV is scheduled for an Indian launch, it is expected to happen sometime in the second half of 2019. Given the competition it is up against, the X7's sticker price is likely to easily cross the Rs 1 crore mark.

In the United Kingdom, three versions are available from launch: a six-cylinder petrol engine for the BMW X7 xDrive40i and a pair of six-cylinder in-line diesels to power the BMW X7 xDrive30d and BMW X7 M50d M Performance models.
