School in Russian-annexed Crimea hit by deadly blast

Crimea’s government publishes official list of people killed in Kerch attack

Some in Russian Federation suggested that the Kerch attack may have ties to Ukraine, though there is no evidence so far.

Crimea's regional leader Sergei Aksyonov initially said the perpetrator was a 22-year-old student in the school who lives in Kerch and shot himself afterwards. A security camera image carried by Russian media showed him calmly walking down the stairs of the school in the Black Sea city of Kerch, the shotgun in his gloved hand. Military units were deployed near the college to help emergency agencies.

They described photographs circulating on the internet showing Roslyakov wearing a similar T-shirt to Eric Harris, one of the Columbine killers.

Wednesday's attack was by far the worst by a student in Russian Federation, raising questions about school security in the country.

But it later said it was investigating a mass murder after "this young man shot people dead in the college and then committed suicide", adding that all the victims died of gunshot wounds.

An unknown explosive device caused a large blast at approximately 12 p.m., the National Anti-Terrorism Committee of Russian Federation reported on its website.

During the course of the day investigators said they found two explosive devices: one in the college canteen and another in the personal belongings of Roslyakov, whose body was discovered in the library.

"He would say that he lost trust in people when his classmates began humiliating him for not being like everyone else", a 15-year-old named as Zlata told the Kremlin-funded RT television of Vladislav Roslyakov. Officials later found a second explosive device and destroyed it.

According to the RIA Novosti agency, security forces raided Roslyakov's parents' home following the killings. She said most of the victims were students and more than 50 people were injured as a result of the explosion.

The gas canister explosion is said to have occurred Wednesday at the vocational college in the city of Kerch in eastern Crimea, according to local emergency officials.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, described the killings as a "tragic event".

Kerch is linked to the Russian mainland by a bridge opened by Putin in May.

Vadim Vlasyuk, 18, who escaped the attack, said he was unsure if he would be able to return to the college.

An unnamed witness who worked nearby said in a video on Kerch.tv website victims "were taken away in public transport, in minibuses and buses, with 2 or 3 people in each ambulance". The paper said that Roslyakov's mother is a Jehovah's Witness - a Christian organisation considered "extremist" and banned in Russian Federation. Skvortsova said some victims had their legs or feet blow off by the explosion.

Dozens of soldiers rushed to the school around 12pm local time, suspecting a terrorist attack.

Roslyakov placed a bomb in the college cafeteria just as Harris and Dylan Klebold had done at Columbine nearly 20 years before.
