Australia verge on losing Pakistan series

Former England captain Michael Vaughan

Usman Khawaja, whose herculean century helped Australia salvage a draw in the first Test, could not bat in the second innings after tearing a left knee cartilage in the warmup on Thursday.

On the day 3 of the second Test, top-order batsman Ali gave the internet users another reason to mock the national team for showing unforgivable negligence on the field.

The incident happened in the 52nd over when Australian pacer Peter Siddle got Ali to edge a delivery to third-man.

The ball pulled up short of the rope and Mitchell Starc threw it to Tim Paine who took off the bails while Ali was fist-bumping non-striker Asad Shafiq in the middle of the pitch.

On the third day, Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali and Shafiq were involved in one of the most weird runouts in the history of Test cricket. Ali, along with his teammate at the crease, thought that it was a certain boundary and hence did not bother to finish the run as they stopped for a chat in the middle of the crease. The umpires, after a brief conversation, concluded that it was Azhar Ali, who was run-out. Pakistan had made 282 in their first innings while Australia were dismissed for 145 in reply on a pitch that has offered turn since day one.

Earlier, Babar narrowly missed out on a hundred after an aggressive innings, while skipper Sarfraz Ahmed followed up his first-innings 94 with 81 as Pakistan declared their second innings at 400-9, setting a daunting 538-run target for the tourists.

When the wickets were falling on another end, the Australian opener, Aaron Finch scored a decent knock of 39. The hosts have been in a commendable position as they already have a lead of around 350 runs. In the same innings, Azhar Ali got run-out in a freaky fashion.
