Major League Baseball investigates suspected Astros cheating in ALCS Game 1

Report: Astros possibly caught cheating in ALCS Game 1

It's unclear as to whether or not that warning came from Major League Baseball or the Red Sox.

The initial implication was that the employee was attempting to steal signs and relay them to the Astros.

"We are aware of the matter and it will be handled internally", an Major League Baseball spokesperson told Metro.

With respect to both incidents regarding a Houston Astros employee, security identified an issue, addressed it and turned the matter over to the Department of Investigations.

The Houston Astros on Wednesday acknowledged a longstanding practice of having a team employee surveil the opposing team's dugout during road games, but said the objective was merely to ensure that they. Passan also details a complaint filed by the Athletics, who alleged that the Astros were using a clapping-based system from the dugout to relay stolen signs to the players on the field during an August game.

The Red Sox had been warned before their series-opening game to look out for the man, the AP was told by the people.

After the man was removed another Astros staffer intervened - according to sources who were on the scene - and tried to convince security that he was authorized to be in the area next to the dugout.

The Indians had been upset when an unidentified man, who had been issued a credential before the October 8 game in Cleveland, appeared to be trying to view scouting reports in the team's dugout on Houston's players, one person told AP.

After being asked about the man claiming to be an Astros' employee and the warning given to the Red Sox, an Indians spokesman said via email on Tuesday, "We are not going to comment on this situation". "If we feel there's something going on we switch the signs". And we don't get caught up in the whole paranoia thing [with] the signs.

"I'm always concerned about that throughout the season", Cora said after Boston's Game 3 win over Houston.

Does Cora, a bench coach for Hinch during last year's World Series championship run, think the Astros were doing anything against the rules during Games 1 and 2 at Fenway?

Earlier this season, Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer intimated on Twitter that Houston's pitchers may have been using banned substances to improve the spin on their pitches.

Following Game 3, Indians starter Mike Clevinger alluded to the Astros having an advantage. Bauer didn't provide any specifics but his insinuations triggered a social-media storm, which included responses from several Astros players, including pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Collin McHugh.
