Missing Barron Co. teen possibly spotted in Florida

Jayme Closs

When deputies arrived, they found the couple dead with gunshot wounds.

He said Jayme was not considered a suspect in her parents' deaths. "That's our goal. That's our only goal right now", Fitzgerald said. "We could hear yelling in the background on this 911 call".

The missing 13-year-old Wisconsin girl whose parents were found dead inside their home may have been spotted at a Miami gas station, police have revealed.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald did not say how the couple had died, but he indicated that there had been gunshots. He didn't release their names. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff's tip line at 1-855-744-3879.

"That's also what makes this a unusual thing", Fitzgerald said. The authorities are searching for Jayme, who isn't a suspect in her parents' deaths. He says investigators have been talking with Jayme's friends, but so far have no leads on a possible suspect.

Both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and representatives from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are on the scene.

The caller told police a young girl fitting the description of five-foot, 100-pound Jayme Closs was seen between 2 and 3 p.m. Monday at a Sunflex gas station on the corner of Northwest 27th Avenue and 11th Street.

The Barron County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call made from a residence on Highway 8 east of Barron shortly before 1 a.m. Even the sheriff said they're working with very little information.

He also declined to elaborate as to why investigators believe Jayme is not a runaway, saying that disclosing more information would compromise their investigation.

Fitzgerald explained, "This is a unusual one but we do believe Jamie needs to be located and we do feel she's in danger to some degree and that's our focus now, that's where our efforts and being produced".

Initially, Fitzgerald said he couldn't put out an Amber Alert because he didn't have a suspect or a vehicle, or any leads.

The Barron County Sheriff's Office didn't immediately respond to a call early Tuesday asking about the credibility of the report.
