Trump Threatens to Cut Honduras Aid Over 'Growing' Migrant Caravan — CARAVAN CRISIS

A caravan of Honduran migrants moves north after crossing the border from Honduras into Guatemala

Trump did not follow through on a similar threat to the Central American nation in April over an earlier caravan, which eventually petered out. Now comes round two.

More than 1,000 people, including families and women carrying babies, set off on Saturday from Honduras towards the United States in a mass migration march.

The caravan began as about 160 people who first gathered early Friday to depart from San Pedro Sula, one of Honduras' most risky places, figuring that traveling as a group would make them less vulnerable to robbery, assault and other dangers common on the migratory path through Central America and Mexico. Police gave their own estimate of around 2,000 on Monday. "Mexico is doing very little, if not NOTHING, at stopping people from flowing into Mexico through their Southern Border, and then into the U.S. They laugh at our dumb immigration laws". Then it's on to Mexico and possibly the United States, though if history holds, numerous migrants will break off and remain in Central America.

Why: Here's how one Honduran congressman puts it in a (Spanish-language) tweet: "They are not seeking the American dream-they're fleeing the Honduran nightmare". Along the way, locals often help them with food and water. "Such caravans have been something of an annual event for years and have mostly happened without much fanfare or worldwide attention", the story notes.

"Tell your people: Don't put your families at risk by taking the unsafe journey north to attempt to enter the United States illegally", he said last week during a speech in Washington, DC. Numerous migrants are fleeing a poor economy and some of the highest crime rates in the world. "We are seeing an unprecedented violation of human rights".
