Turkish government officials have said a team of Saudi agents killed and dismembered Khashoggi, who was last seen entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Saudi Arabia is preparing a report that would admit Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed as the result of an interrogation that went wrong, CNN reports, citing two unnamed sources.

A Turkish security source has told the BBC that officials have audio and video evidence proving Mr Khashoggi was murdered inside the building.

Over the weekend, US President Donald Trump vowed "severe punishment" if it were proven that Saudi Arabia killed Khashoggi, and sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the kingdom on Monday to discuss the incident.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, said King Salman thanked Erdogan "for welcoming the kingdom's proposal" for forming the working group.

Mr Aldakhil's extraordinary message comes after Mr Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, disappeared on October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate in Turkey to get marriage documents.

Khashoggi, a USA resident, Washington Post columnist and leading critic of the powerful Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul two weeks ago to get marriage documents. He was an outspoken critic of the Saudi regime, and was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

"It has yet again shown the world that the Saudi government doesn't care about the law, doesn't care about basic human dignity, basic ethos of protecting people who enter your consulate, much less a prominent journalist", Whitson said.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said Pompeo was expected in Turkey on Wednesday to meet Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, after talks in Riyadh. We have seen Saudi Arabia killing Naser al-Sa'id in 1979 in Lebanon - he was kidnapped, taken back to Saudi Arabia and was killed.

The Yemeni statement said Saudi Arabia was being targeted due to its "honourable and honest positions" towards a range of issues, particularly its role in combating "terrorism and extremism" fostered by Iran.

His remarks prompted Saudi Arabia to threaten to use its economic muscle to respond to any punitive measure but Rai al-Youm, a pan-Arab newspaper based in London, said the kingdom might have to ready itself for new "milking" by the US.

Saudi Arabia agreed last week to allow Turkish officials to conduct a search but insisted it would only be a superficial "visual" inspection.

Meanwhile, more major players in global finance and industry are pulling out of a high-profile business conference in Saudi Arabia.

"We can confirm. that Jamie will not be attending the Saudi event", a JP Morgan spokesperson said in an email to the BBC on Monday. Ford Motor Executive Chairman Bill Ford won't attend because of a scheduling conflict, a spokeswoman said.
