Government Claims 'It's OK To Be White' Vote Was A Mistake

Australian Senate Votes Against Motion That 'It Is Okay To Be White'

When introducing her motion, Hanson had said that anyone "who pays attention to the news or spends any time on social media has to acknowledge that there has been a rise in anti-white racism", as well as a "rise in attacks on the very ideals of Western civilisation".

The phrase is a favourite of the alt-right movement, and has been supported by Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke and other white nationalists.

This morning Finance minister Mathias Cormann apologised, saying his team only supported it because of an "administrative error".

Pauline Hanson has unsuccessfully moved a motion in federal parliament declaring, "it's okay to be white".

"I am sorry for any suggestion that either I, my colleagues or the Government supports any form of racism and I categorically reject any implication contained in yesterday's motion that downplays racism and historic injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians".

He repeated Cormann's statement that it was an "administrative error", and he is reviewing the processes in his office.

The motion was defeated 28-31, but the government was slammed after almost two dozen members of the National and Liberal parties voted alongside Hanson and Fraser Anning.

Attorney-General Christian Porter - who sits in the lower house and therefore did not vote in Monday's Senate motion, but who tweeted his support of it on Monday night - issued a statement on Tuesday saying his office had also suffered an "error".

Sears files for bankruptcy after years of turmoil
Three companies that sell items at Sears told Reuters this week that Sears had missed payments to them over the past few weeks. There are several reports that Sears is in talks for that kind of financing, but negotiations don't appear to be going well.

Senator Derryn Hinch, who voted against the motion and said it "could have been written on a piece of toilet paper", wasn't having it.

"It is indeed okay to be white".

"People have a right to be proud of their cultural background whether they're black, white or brindle". "If we can not agree on this, I think it's safe to say anti-white racism is well and truly rife in our society".

Labor, Greens and crossbench politicians were quick to question the government's claim that the vote was a mistake.

Labor senator Kristina Keneally said the backflip was surely motivated by the looming by-election in Wentworth this Saturday.

"The government's latest excuse is they're not racist, they're just incompetent".

The phrase "it's OK to be white" has been popularised online among far-right groups.

Pauline Hanson's "it's OK to be white" motion voted down in the senate.
