'Apartment Patty' Fired After Blocking Black Man

Woman fired after blocking black man from entering his apartment building

A black man arrived at the entrance to the building where he lives in St. Louis late Friday night only to find himself blocked by a white neighbour who demanded proof he lived there. "Ma'am, you're not security". Shen then followed him into the elevator and to his front door. "You walked into a building that I was taking my dog out, and pushed your way in", Mueller says, asking who he knows in the building before claiming that she would follow him.

Toles said Sunday that about 30 minutes after he got into his unit, a police officer knocked on his door and told him that Mueller felt "uncomfortable" about Toles being there.

Eventually, Toles gives up on trying to negotiate and pushes past Mueller.

"As a record I just want to say, 'Hi, what is your name?'" she begins to say before Toles cuts her off. "I need you to move out of my way please", Toles responds. Toles tells Thornton in the video, "You are blocking me into my building".

"And if you do, then I would like to meet you because you're a neighbor", Mueller says. "You're not the owner".

The interaction included the woman telling the man that she is uncomfortable and repeatedly demanding that he disclose the unit in which he lives.

Toles said that he isn't upset with the woman and isn't going to take legal action against her.

By Monday, Mueller's employer, Tribeca STL, a luxury apartment company, said it chose to fire her after seeing the video.

"The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds", the company said in a statement. After reviewing the video Toles posted, the company released a statement saying she was sacked, and that it will "never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company".

"I am not mad at her", he continued.

The video went viral on Facebook and now has over 6.3 million views.

He added: "At the end of the day, why would she call the police on me?" He also told KMOV 4 that he wishes the woman "the best" and "would still have a conversation with her". "I'm just glad I had my camera out because if I didn't have my camera out, I feel that it could have went a totally different way".
