Sanath Jayasuriya charged under ICC anti-corruption code

Sri Lanka veteran Sanath Jayasuriya charged by ICC under anti-corruption code

After signing off from global cricket, Jayasuriya also tried his hands at politics and in 2010 became an elected member of the Sri Lankan parliament, a stint which ended in 2015.

Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has been charged with two counts of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and has been given 14 days to respond.

Last year, the Jayasuriya-led selection panel resigned en masse following protests over Sri Lanka's slump in form.

Earlier this month, the ICC said the ACU was investigating serious allegations of corruption in Sri Lankan cricket and has provided a detailed briefing to the country's president, prime minister and sports minister.

Jayasuriya has 14 days starting October 15 to respond to the charges.

#MeToo: Filmmaker calls out senior journalist, says he slobbered over her face
The filmmaker recalled how Vinod Dua lashed out at Akshay Kumar for his sexist remarks on her daughter Mallika. It isn't my responsibility, shame or burden. "I will deal with this my way on my time", said Mallika.

It wasn't known which matches the charges relate to, or if anyone else is involved. "We are now in Sri Lanka as part of our ongoing investigations into serious allegations of corruption in cricket in the country", ICC anti-corruption unit general manager Alex Marshall said in a statement.

"There is now an ICC (ACU) investigation under way in Sri Lanka".

The charges relate to failure or refusal to cooperate with an ACU investigation and obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information which may be relevant. His tally of 13,430 one-day internationals runs is fourth on the all-time list, behind only Sachin Tendulkar, compatriot Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting.

However, the ICC did not specify what exactly prompted its action against the celebrated cricketer, who is a World Cup victor and played 110 Tests and 445 ODIs.

Jayasuriya played worldwide cricket from 1989-2011.
