Apple now has at least 24 original shows or movies in production, including content from Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, J. J. Abrams, and M. Night Shyamalan.
The service's Apple-produced content will be free to Apple device owners, while the subscription "channels" (such as HBO in the US) that sit next to it in Apple's TV app will allow users to subscribe to them.
Apple is apparently betting big on the service, sinking $1 billion into original content this year alone (24 original shows are said to be in production and development.) The aim is to land one or more "tent pole" franchises to entice people to subscribe.
Apple has been looking to develop original video content for its new digital media strategy for quite some time now, and a new report from CNBC claims the tech giant plans to give away some of its TV shows and movies for free to anyone who owns an iOS or Apple TV device. An Android/smart TV streaming app seems a pretty safe bet, although Apple might want to keep things exclusive to boost its own hardware sales. The first episode of Planet of the Apps is free, but you need an Apple Music subscription to watch subsequent episodes. After all, customers will have to buy an Apple device in order to get access to these shows, and that's what's providing all the cash to pay for these shows anyway.

The FSF Wants Microsoft To Do More To Help Fight Software Patents
However, the company is not making patents such as Windows' desktop and desktop application code open source. Member companies also promise not to assert their patents against the Linux Community.
Apple is reportedly working on a first-party digital video service, which has been rumored before. It appears that Apple will, at least initially, use its TV app as a springboard.
According to CNBC's inside source, the service will launch in early 2019 to coincide with an update to the Apple TV app.
One of the other additions to the "TV" app is it will end up being how users access subscription channels like HBO, Showtime and Starz. We'll just have to be patient until Apple makes an announcement.
