Khashoggi's reported killing: 'No state can ignore such a move'

According to the newspaper, 15 Saudis arrived in Istanbul aboard two planes on the same day Khashoggi disappeared in the consulate. Saudi Arabia has denied the allegations, insisting he left the consulate on his own, but has provided no evidence that he departed the building. It was not clear whether the Saudis meant to arrest and interrogate Khashoggi or to kill him, or if the United States warned Khashoggi that he was a target, this person said.

The kingdom is already under pressure amid growing global concern for the writer.

"I also urge Saudi Arabia, especially King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to show the same level of sensitivity and release CCTV footage from the consulate".

The report by the Sabah newspaper, which is close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, published images of the men apparently taken at passport control.

It was reported on Tuesday that the six cars that left the consulate, several hours after Khashoggi had entered, stopped for several hours at the nearby Saudi consul general's residence, a site that has now become a focal point of the investigation into what happened to him. The channel said the van then drove some two kilometres to the consul's home, where it parked inside a garage. So far, there's no public evidence showing he ever walked out, nor any released by Turkish officials about why they believe Khashoggi was killed. It said they checked into two hotels in Istanbul on October 2, the day Khashoggi went missing, and left later that day.

He later returned October 2 after being promised the necessary paperwork so the two could be married.

Meanwhile, in London, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt met the Saudi ambassador on Tuesday to "seek urgent answers", according to a post on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the Post published a column by Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz.

David Kaye, the United Nations special rapporteur on freedom of expression, said the disappearance of Saudi government critic Jamal Khashoggi "puts basically the Turks in the position of having both to maintain a diplomatic relationship and to deal with a real important, high-profile investigation".
