Senate Judiciary Committee Reschedules Kavanaugh Vote for Friday Morning

Sen. Dianne Feinstein D-Calif. the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee responds to reporters' questions on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh amid scrutiny of a woman's claim he sexually assaulted her at a party when they were

President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh in July to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy on the high court.

"Certainly we would be open to that, and that process could take place on Thursday", Sanders said.

Republicans have rejected any further delays in the confirmation process, which includes a committee vote followed by consideration by the full Senate.

The letter raising those issues once again could throw into doubt the scheduled hearing, which has been the subject of ever-changing negotiations since Christine Blasey Ford first went public.

"By hiring a private attorney to cross-examine Dr. Blasey Ford, Republicans are trying to intimidate her and avoid being held accountable by voters", Harris said in a Twitter posting.

This is a breaking news story.

John Thune, a member of the Republican leadership, told reporters the Senate debate on Kavanaugh could begin as soon as Friday or Saturday, with a confirmation vote possible next week.

On top of all that, Kavanaugh "unequivocally denied Dr. Ford's allegations. under penalty of perjury" during a September 17 interview with committee lawyers, Grassley said, adding he was "forthright and emphatic in his testimony" and "fully answered all questions". "I did not have sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter".

In a separate interview on MSNBC, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said, "We believe Judge Kavanaugh, clear, under penalty of perjury, called for a hearing last week". As the Post article describes, "Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed on her back and groped her over her clothes".

The story notes that Ramirez was at first "hesitant to speak publicly, partly because her memories [of an event that allegedly occurred 35 years ago] contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time". "If Ms. Ramirez submits testimony and evidence to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which committee investigators have requested, we can decide how to proceed".

Kavanaugh's 2nd Accuser 'Has Nothing' Because She 'Admits She Was Drunk'
He also said he would not let "false accusations" force him to withdraw as a candidate for a life term as a Supreme Court justice. She also initially expressed uncertainty to the New Yorker but somehow became certain enough to go on the record six days later.

Kavanaugh, 53, said on the conservative-friendly Fox News Channel that he wasn't questioning that his initial accuser, psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford, may have been sexually assaulted in her life.

Trump ultimately wants Kavanaugh's nomination to come to a vote, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Monday would happen "in the near future". Her lawyer is objecting to Republican plans for the use of an outside counsel to ask questions.

"The American people know that sexual misconduct is gravely serious", McConnell said Tuesday.

Republicans, with a 51-49 Senate majority, can confirm Kavanaugh if they stay united.

"It is Judge Kavanaugh who is seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and who I think now bears the burden of disproving these allegations", said Mr. Coons in a Monday interview on MSNBC, "rather than Dr. Ford and Deborah Ramirez who should be dismissed with slanderous accusations".

He added that her account is not credible because she was "totally inebriated and all messed up".

Shaunna Thomas, executive director of UltraViolet Action, a progressive groups that opposes Kavanaugh's confirmation, criticized the judge for choosing the "comfort of a partisan network" to air his denials.

"Oh gee, let's not make him a Supreme Court justice because of this", the president added in a sarcastic tone, according to The New York Times. While discussing the Kavanaugh allegations Sunday on CNN, Haley said sexual assault accusers should not be blamed or second-guessed.

To many, the nomination of a man accused of sexual assault by multiple women sends a loud message to young people, especially young women.
