Office 2019 launches for Windows and Mac

Microsoft wants to reach the workplace before Alexa

Office 2019 is the stand-alone, perpetual license version of Office.

Microsoft Azure Chief Technical Officer Mark Russinovich first discussed plans for this confidential computing service at first at Build in May, and it will arrive in public preview next month, Lefferts said. And he neatly cleared up the confusion.

MICROSOFT HAS PUSHED OUT the latest version of its venerable Office suite to macOS and Windows 10 users.

Microsoft Office 2019 is priced at $249.99 for Home and Bussiness consumers.

However, Microsoft also wants you to know that these new features have been offered to Office 365 ProPlus subscribers over the last three years, and notes that Office 2019 is a one-time release that won't receive further updates. Greater value will be experienced by organizations using Microsoft 365.

This isn't the way Microsoft markets the product, of course.

And that's where Office 2019 comes in.

Indeed, it would be easy to believe that Microsoft had done all-in on the cloud, based on the past few years.

Kavanaugh and Ford are scheduled to testify before senators this Thursday in relation to the allegation that started this circus. Trump said he backs Kavanaugh "all the way" and dismissed the new sexual misconduct allegations as "unsubstantiated statements".

For Word and Outlook users, you'll see the addition of Learning Tools features like Read Aloud and Text Spacing.

And this isn't marketing. (OneNote is free and available outside of Office, regardless of platform). For instance, PowerPoint now includes Morph and Zoom through which you can create cinematic presentations.

For anyone who uses Microsoft Teams at work - you can now blur the background of a video meeting (providing a useful, if somewhat shameful, way for the lazy among us to avoid cleaning our rooms), and record meetings with a searchable, timecoded transcript. The only restriction is that each person can only use Office on one of their devices at a time-not a big deal. It's just like Office was in the days before the subscription-based Office 365 was in play.

Plus, let's take a look at how Office 365 compares to Office 2019.

It will also roll out some new products that help protect employees, including Microsoft Authenticator support for apps that use Microsoft's Azure Active Directory single sign-on technology allowing employees to sign into corporate resources without having to use a password. But now it's for three primary reasons, not two.

Office 2019 Applications Office 2019 consists of the traditional Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word productivity applications. Office 2019 is a buy it once, and you're done until you buy another version deal. Contrary to my suspicions, Microsoft isn't being wishy-washy about whether or not it will release an Office 2022 (or whatever). "We will absolutely do more".

What are the Office 2019 system requirements?

"Office 2019 is a valuable update for customers who aren't yet ready for the cloud", Microsoft says. You're looking at less, not more. The downside is that all the new features in the 2019 edition are already in the subscription one. You're just going to continue getting more functional and quality updates to Office.
