Metro PCS Becomes Metro by T-Mobile & Adds Free Amazon Prime

T-Mobile rebrands prepaid line to emphasize network coverage

T-Mobile US Inc (TMUS.O) said Monday it is renaming its prepaid brand to Metro by T-Mobile and adding two new unlimited phone plans that will include perks like Google One cloud storage and Amazon (AMZN.O) Prime, in an effort to remove the perception that prepaid plans have subpar service.

Metro by T-Mobile is the first wireless carrier to bundle Google One with its plans, but just last month, Sprint also announced that its Unlimted Premium $90/month plan comes with Amazon Prime.

T-Mobile says that these new unlimited plans, along with Metro's new branding, will launch next month.

49ers fear Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL
Beathard would likely start as quarterback, unless the 49ers front office decides to explore a trade or free agency. The Kansas City Chiefs' gamble to divest from Alex Smith and hand Patrick Mahomes the reins has been a good one.

The flip side of that savings is that Metro by T-Mobile customers are lower priority when networks get overloaded. The brand's customer base has grown from around 8 million in 2013 to fully 18 million today, likely due to the fact that T-Mobile is selling the brand nationwide (instead of in a handful of cities) across 10,000 retail locations. As you would expect this service still runs on the T-Mobile network. The new $50 plan includes "unlimited" LTE data, 5GB of LTE mobile hotspot data and a subscription to Google One.

T-Mobile is sweetening the former MetroPCS brand, which is aimed at budget-conscious users who pay upfront for wireless service, with access to the latest smartphone models and added perks that are usually associated with pricier service plans. But the change in name isn't the other thing that's being altered following the rebranding. If you have two lines, your monthly cost for this plan goes up to $80, while four lines brings the monthly cost up to $140. He also said the company's dealers likely will appreciate the change because "they get a story that's more transparent to the customer".

Metro claims that customers will save $1,000 annually on its two new plans versus comparable options from AT&T and Verizon.
