McCONNELL: 'Senate Democrats Trying to Destroy Kavanaugh's Life'

Trump's Supreme Court pick faces new misconduct claim - USA - Chinadaily.com.cn

Kavanaugh was previously accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford, who claimed that the Supreme Court nominee sexually assaulted her while the two were in high school.

Her allegations come after Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford alleged that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school, pinning her down on a bed and covering her mouth when she tried to scream.

Also jumping into the fray was the attorney who represents porn actress Stormy Daniels in her legal fight with Trump.

Confirmation of the federal appeals court judge to the lifetime job would cement conservative control of the Supreme Court and advance Trump's goal of moving the high court and the broader federal judiciary to the right. All of the witnesses identified by Dr. Ford as being present at the party she describes are on the record to the Committee saying they have no recollection of any such party happening. What we will have is a woman who says she has suffered the "lasting impact" of an alleged sexual assault.by a man who says he has "never sexually assaulted anyone". He said he did not remember being at a party with her. I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process.

"I'm not going to let false accusations drive me out of this process".

"There's a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate, but I am with Judge Kavanaugh", Trump said. And people generally, in high school, I think all of us have probably done things.

The interview follows new accusations from Deborah Ramirez, who claimed that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party while the two were students at Yale.

Ramirez said she was heavily intoxicated the night the alleged incident happened, and can not remember many details.

Kavanaugh defended himself in an emotional interview on Monday after a second woman accused him of sexual misconduct over the weekend.

On the Senate floor Monday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell slammed Democrats for their ongoing antics to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation and said he will get a vote.

Trump's instinct since the Ford allegations first surfaced over a week ago has been to defend his Supreme Court pick and try to muscle his nomination through.

The accusation from Ramirez raise the stakes further for a dramatic showdown Thursday, as Kavanaugh and Ford testify in public about an incident she characterizes as attempted rape - and that he says simply never happened.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh said he believes that the woman accusing him of sexual assault may have been a victim of such an act "at some point" in her life, but said he didn't do it.

"Judge Kavanaugh is an outstanding person".

White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec called the new allegation part of a "coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man". "I'm just being honest", said Senator Lindsey Graham.

Protesters opposing Kavanaugh's confirmation held rallies in Washington, New York, Philadelphia and elsewhere. Eva Malecki, communications director for Capitol Police, confirmed the arrests were made at the Dirksen Senate Office Building but would not say how many. The Democratic Party has called for the vote to be postponed till the allegations of assault are investigated.

The Kavanaugh controversy is unfolding just weeks before November 6 congressional elections in which Democrats are trying to take control of Congress from Republicans, against a backdrop of the #MeToo movement fighting sexual harassment and assault.
