Instagram co-founders Systrom and Krieger leaving firm

Kevin Systrom in 2013

Kevin Systrom, the chief executive officer, and Mike Krieger, chief technical officer, have announced they will step down from Instagram in the next few weeks - six years after it was bought by Facebook.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the pair is leaving after clashing with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who has reportedly taken a closer interest in the app as his company has increasingly depended on it for future growth. "We're now ready for our next chapter".

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg praised the two men, "Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents". "I wish them all the best and I'm looking forward to seeing what they build next", Zuckerberg said.

Instagram's two co-founders are stepping down from the company, according to a report by The New York Times.

It was sold to Facebook for $1 billion a couple of years later, and is closing in on a billion users worldwide - making it the third largest social network on the planet.

This is a breaking story and will be updated. Offered through Instagram and as a standalone app, IGTV serves up longer-length video content, mostly from popular Instagram users.

Asensio has started all five of Madrid's LaLiga games this season, and they moved top of the table with their win over Espanyol . Lopetegui rested Gareth Bale , Toni Kroos and Marcelo for the clash and Varane says winning can not come easy every week.

It's the latest in a wave of executive departures of recent times, one that's proven a particular headache for Facebook.

When Facebook bought it up, Instagram was ad-free and had a following of 31m people.

Facebook recently said it had deleted hundreds of pages on Facebook and Instagram that were linked to global misinformation campaigns meant to disrupt elections.

They notified the photo-sharing app's leadership team and Facebook on Monday about their decision to leave, according to Instagram.

Instagram has largely escaped Facebook's high-profile problems over user privacy, foreign election interference and fake news, even though it is not immune to any of these things.
