New Kavanaugh accuser emerges

Nominee Judge Kavanaugh during his Senate confirmation hearing in Washington

They have also accepted the committee's decision not to subpoena Mark Judge, a Kavanaugh friend who Ford asserts was present when the incident occurred in the eighties.

In a letter Thursday to Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh wrote, "Since the moment I first heard this allegation, I have categorically and unequivocally denied it". Senate Republicans should stand up to these unsubstantiated and discredited allegations and move forward with a vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

Separately, Michael Avenatti, the lawyer best known for representing adult film star Stephanie Clifford, said on Twitter that he represents a woman "with credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh".

She tells the New Yorker she recalls other students telling her to kiss it. Ramirez says she pushed the person away, touching the penis in the process, and then saw Kavanaugh standing next to her, pulling his trousers up and laughing. Ramirez says she and Kavanaugh were sitting in a small group of students playing a drinking game at the campus' Lawrance Hall.

A spokesman for Utah Republican Mike Lee, who sits on the committee, told the Guardian that the new allegations came "absolutely [as a] 100% surprise" to the Senator. "I was embarrassed and ashamed and humiliated". Ramirez is now calling for the F.B.I.to investigate Kavanaugh's role in the incident. Ramirez says she specifically remembers hearing his full name.

A Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee says Brett Kavanaugh's accuser deserves a fair hearing to determine whether her allegations of sexual assault are "serious" enough to vote down his Supreme Court nomination. "Judge Kavanaugh has unequivocally denied Dr. Ford's allegations". It had seemed assured before the 51-year-old California college professor went public a week ago with her allegation that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a party when they were in high school.

The question of whether Ford would testify before the committee had gone unanswered for several days amid protracted back-and-forth tussling between Senate Republicans and Ford's legal team, who disagreed on the ideal timing of the hearing, as well as who should testify first and whether outside lawyers should be allowed to ask questions.

Brett Kavanaugh Accused of Sexual Misconduct By a Second Woman - Hit & Run
They were both present at a party in a dorm room their freshman year, Ramirez told The New Yorker's Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer. Kavanaugh, an appellate court judge, denied the allegation and said he wanted to testify as soon as possible to clear his name.

He called the situation "worse than Matthew", the 2016 hurricane that destroyed nearly 90 percent of the town's 261 homes. Hedges is considered innocent until proven guilty", said the Wayne County Government in a statement.

But the allegations have knocked the White House and its conservative allies - who fear that their chance to remake the court is slipping away - on their heels.

"This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man", Kupec said. "In the very near future, Judge Kavanaugh will be on the United States Supreme Court".

Sunday's call was bipartisan and lasted about an hour, said a person familiar with the conversation who wasn't authorized to speak publicly.

The journalists behind the piece, Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer, say they contacted dozens of classmates to try and corroborate Ms Ramirez's account. The New Yorker reports it reached out to Ramirez after learning of the alleged incident, and that she responded after six days of inventorying her memories and speaking with her lawyer.

Ramirez has called on the FBI to investigate her claims, as have Democratic Senate lawmakers - who first learned about the accusations last week, along with Senior Republican staffers.

One Republican senator, declining to be identified, called the developments published in The New Yorker "bizarre" and a series of "ugly allegations". In still another, he called Kavanaugh "a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault from radical left wing politicians who don't want to know the answers".

The result is the festival of misdirection and ugliness that now surrounds the effort to secure Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh's confirmation.
