Yale prof reportedly told students Kavanaugh hires attractive clerks

The piece ended by stating: "Unless a full and fair investigation is conducted, Harvard Law School can not allow Kavanaugh to continue teaching its students and the Senate can not confirm him to the Supreme Court".

Chua, who is perhaps best known for being the author of a 2011 book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother", wrote in a July op-ed for The Wall Street Journal titled "Kavanaugh Is a Mentor To Women." Chua, who wrote a piece for the WSJ earlier this year publicly endorsing Kavanaugh as a "mentor to women", was instrumental in providing Kavanaugh with numerous judge's clerks over the years. 'He did not say what the look was and I did not ask'.

Chua's own daughter is due to clerk for Kavanaugh.

Chua allegedly told the students that it was "no accident" that Kavanaugh's female clerks "looked like models".

A Yale law professor reportedly advised female students on their appearances to bolster their chances of being hired by Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh as law clerks.

One source said that in at least one case, a law student was so put off by Chua's advice about how she needed to look, and its implications, that she decided not to pursue a clerkship with Kavanaugh, a powerful member of the judiciary who had a formal role in vetting clerks who served in the U.S. supreme court.

'There is good reason so many of them have gone on to supreme court clerkships; he only hires those who are extraordinarily qualified. However, her attorneys sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday that stated she "would be prepared to testify next week" but wanted assurances for her safety after receiving death threats, the Times reported, citing the letter.

"In our view, the Judge has been one of the strongest advocates in the federal judiciary for women lawyers", the women wrote in the letter.

Another source says that professor Amy Chua - Rubenfeld's wife and also on the faculty at the school - instructed students on how to present themselves as they prepared for clerkship interviews with Kavanaugh, and suggested sending pictures of themselves in different outfits before going to interview.

He is facing allegations that while at high school he attempted to rape a fellow teenager, Christine Blasey Ford.

Chua reportedly said that her daughter would not tolerate any inappropriate behavior.

The Guardian reports the couple's tendency to raise the issue of looks didn't extend to other judges. The Guardian notes that Rubenfeld is now the subject of an internal investigation at Yale focused on his conduct, particularly with female law students.

'In June, Yale informed me that it would conduct what it terms an "informal review" of certain allegations, but that to preserve anonymity, I was not entitled to know any specifics.
