Kavanaugh accuser agrees to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee

Republicans set afternoon deadline for Kavanaugh accuser to decide to testify

Committee Chairman Senator Chuck Grassley reluctantly granted Ford an extension Friday night, writing in a string of tweets: 'With all the extensions we give Dr Ford to decide if she still wants to testify to the Senate I feel like I'm playing 2nd trombone in the judiciary orchestra and [Senator Chuck] Schumer is the conductor'.

In a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Smyth said he wrote "to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh".

According to the report, Kavanaugh has been in contact Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee to find out what questions he will face and to urge them to support him publicly.

He did not, however, say how long he would wait for Ford "to decide if she wants to proceed".

Testimony by Blasey could greatly complicate matters for Kavanaugh, who has vigorously denied Blasey's allegations and just last week seemed destined for confirmation.

The statement is signed by attorney's Debra Katz and Lisa Banks.

As the talks continued, Mr Grassley countered that he would end the stand-off by scheduling a Monday vote on whether to recommend Mr Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate.

Donald Trump heads to Carolinas to look at Hurricane Florence damage
But extreme weather can also expose an administration's weaknesses, as Hurricane Katrina did for President George W. They can't say for certain what it might do", Conway resident Joe Holmes told the AP on Monday.

A White House official said it appeared that Ford's lawyers were trying to prolong negotiations. If there's no response or a rejection of the offer, Grassley said, the committee may set a vote on Kavanaugh's nomination for Monday.

And he suggested in a tweet that if the alleged sexual assault was as bad as Ford claimed, "charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents".

"I understand that you have been identified as an individual who was in attendance at a party that occurred circa 1982 described in a recent Washington Post article", a committee staffer wrote Keyser earlier this week. Ford, a 51-year-old California psychology professor, says an inebriated Kavanaugh pinned her on a bed, muffled her cries and tried removing her clothes when both were teenagers in the 1980s. It's not my normal approach to [be] indecisive'. Kavanaugh said he wanted to attend the hearing to "clear my name". The GOP has faced enormous pressure from its base of conservative leaders and voters to swiftly approve Kavanaugh, who would become the second of Trump's nominees to sit on the nation's highest court.

In requesting another day to decide, Katz called Grassley's original deadline "arbitrary" and said its "sole goal is to bully Dr. Ford and deprive her of the ability to make a considered decision that has life-altering implications for her and her family". Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the committee, had insisted that she appear to testify on Monday.

The committee's 11 Republicans - all men - have been seeking an outside female attorney to interrogate Ms Ford.

Grassley said he'd consented to several other Ford demands, including that she be provided security and that Kavanaugh not be in the hearing room when she testifies.

After that deadline passed without a resolution, Grassley had issued a statement. Ford's attorney said she could not be there until later in the week. Her request for security comes after her lawyers said she has relocated her family due to death threats.
