Depression & Storm Currently In Atlantic Area

Florence caused severe flooding in the US

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward from the center up to 35 miles (56 kilometers) to the northwest.

The system, one of four the center is watching, was expected to be upgraded by Friday night and followed through, with winds now at 30 miles per hour and moving west at 3 miles per hour as of Saturday's 11 a.m. advisory. At that time, the system will be moving westward and then northwestward over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, according to the center.

Winds are sustained at 40 miles per hour.

Tropical Depression 11 formed overnight about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands and as of 8 a.m. Saturday, it was moving due west at about 5 mph.

The next disturbance or depression upgraded to a tropical storm will be named Kirk followed by Leslie.

The storm will move toward the west-northwest through early next week and is not a threat to Florida. As it gets closer to the Lesser Antilles, high wind shear will most likely tear this apart by Sunday night.

The other system - north of South Florida - has a 30 percent chance of forming into a tropical cyclone, the National Hurricane Center says.

As far as Tropical Depression Eleven, the NHC said that "little change in strength is forecast during the next day or two, and the depression is forecast to become a remnant low on Sunday". The season runs through November 30.
