Cruz vs. O'Rourke: Two polls show different results

Donald Trump on Ted Cruz 'One hell of a competitor'

A Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday put Cruz nine percentage points ahead of O'Rourke among likely voters.

On Saturday, animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) handed out free barbecued tofu outside of a restaurant in Columbus, TX, where Republican Senator Ted Cruz held a event for his re-election campaign to the United States Senate.

"But pretty much all of them show Ted Cruz still leading", he said, adding that Latino voters, who tend not to show up in big numbers in midterm elections, are crucial for O'Rourke to have a chance.

President Trump will visit Texas in October to stump for Cruz.

Friday's debate at Southern Methodist University focused on domestic policy.

Cruz and O'Rourke will face off again September 30 in Houston and October 16 in San Antonio.

"You see a lot more O'Rourke signs in affluent Republican-leaning areas than you might typically see for a Democratic candidate". His campaign touts that he has visited all of Texas' 254 counties.

A Texas sheriff slammed Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) for making critical statements about law enforcement's treatment of African-Americans.

"People who became convicts exclusively by dint of the color of their skin in a system that was radically unjust", O'Rourke continued.

"My thoughts are with the family of Fort Worth police officer Garrett Hull who has died in the line of duty", O'Rourke tweeted.

Cruz used PETA's demonstration as an opportunity to smear Democratic opponent Beto O'Rourke.
