Travel disruption in Scotland and northern England caused by the storm persisted into Thursday, and thousands of homes were without power.

Wind speeds could reach as high as 60mph, and people are being warned to expect the possibility of bus and train services being affected through falling trees or branches; short term losses of power; delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport; and delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

The Met Office said gusts of up to 65mph were possible in some places, as strong winds were likely to develop cross parts of Wales and south west England during Thursday evening.

A spokeswoman for The Weather Channel said: "It will be a very wet few days ahead with 60-90mm of rain expected across much of southern Ireland, Wales and into central and northern England".

The yellow warning has been administered for the east Midlands, east of England, London & south east England, north east England, north west England, south west England, Wales, the west Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber.

Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for seven counties this morning: Cork, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford and Carlow.

CAUTION must be taken for those living by the sea as Storm Bronagh arrives in the Solent, according to Coastguard crews.
