Elon Musk May Accompany Yusaku Maezawa on Lunar Trip!

What you need to know about the first tourist that SpaceX is taking around the moon

SpaceX said Monday night that it would send Yusaku Maezawa, a billionaire entrepreneur and online fashion tycoon from Japan, on a trip around the moon in 2023 aboard the company's monster Big Falcon Rocket.

Meazawa said he plans to bring between six and eight artists along with him-the idea being that they'll be inspired to share the trip with people on Earth in ways the less-artistic among us never could.

The ride will take place aboard a Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), which may not be ready for human flight for five years at least, Musk said. Calling it a "dangerous mission" and "not a walk in the park", he said SpaceX will complete several test flights before putting humans on the rocket. He wishes his guests "to see the moon up close, and the Earth in full view, and create work to reflect their experience", he says.

Mr Maezawa made headlines past year after paying $110.5m for a painting by the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat at an auction in NY.

Maezawa said to announce his trip at a SpaceX event, "Finally, I can tell you that I choose to go to the Moon!" Of course, the goal of this would be that once the artists would come back from the Moon, they will be able to come up with great artwork.

As for Musk, he's not sure when he'll go to space, even though Maezawa extended the invitation to him. "I don't know", Musk said.

"I know that sounds insane, and we don't usually meet our time lines, but I wanted you to know at least order of magnitude, that's what we're thinking", Shotwell said.

Its plan to fly tourists around the moon has also been delayed. "And it sounds insane but everything we've ever done has sounded insane to people, both people that love us and people that don't like us so much".

Spieth frustrated after missing out on Tour Championship
He won two majors this season and also joined Ben Hogan and Curtis Strange as the only golfers to win back-to-back U.S. Tiger Woods also qualified for the Tour Championship following his sixth-place finish at the BMW Championship.

Asked why the company made further changes, Musk said he "did not like the aesthetics" of the previous version.

That mission, the Apollo 17, included a crew made up of Commander Eugene Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt.

Boeing Co. and SpaceX have contracts with NASA to fly the agency's astronauts to the International Space Station as part of what's known as the Commercial Crew Program.

There is now a face and a name for the man who hopes to become the first paying passenger to fly to the moon.

Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic are also battling it out to launch private-sector spacecraft, but neither have so far announced pkans as ambitious as SpaceX. This lunar mission - a flyby, not a landing - represents "an important step toward enabling access for everyday people who dream of traveling to space", SpaceX said in a tweet.

In 2016 he sold $250 million worth of stock so he could buy more art.

The price tag for Maezawa's ticket isn't clear and SpaceX did not make that information public.
