This system was developed by broadcast and cable operators in voluntary cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission, and local authorities to keep you informed in the event of an emergency.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday it will test a new emergency notification system next week that allows President Donald Trump to send emergency messages directly to USA cellphones.
The test alert will be delivered straight to your phone around 1:18 p.m. central time. The test will "use the same special tone and vibration as with all WEA messages", FEMA explained.
The EAS test is scheduled to last approximately one minute and will be similar to regular monthly EAS test messages on TV or radio.
Trump is about to get his own "presidential alert" system plugged into your cell phone. Wireless Emergency Alerts do not require users to "opt-in", and most mobile phones in use today can receive the 90-character text-like messages. Some cell phones will receive the message; others will not.

As Florence Surges Forward, Rethinking What Hurricane Preparation Looks Like
Jeff Byard of the US Federal Emergency Management Agency said it was imperative locals heed the evacuation warnings. For example, the seas off of Wilmington, North Carolina have risen 7.5 inches since 1935, according to NOAA.
Mark Lawrenson reveals his prediction for Chelsea FC v Cardiff
Cardiff have yet to win a game this term, drawing two and losing two, but he feels that it will not be easy against the Welsh side.
You don't need to take any action for the test. The WEA test will be broadcast over the course of about 30 minutes and sound the same as an AMBER Alert.
"The EAS (Emergency Alert System) is a national public warning system that provides the president with the communications capability to address the nation during a national emergency", FEMA said in a statement.
The wireless emergency alerts (WEA) system was authorized by Congress in 2015 under a law that states the "system shall not be used to transmit a message that does not relate to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster or threat to public safety". It is part of a nationwide test by the Federal Emergency Management Agency of Wireless Emergency Alerts systems to assess its effectiveness.
FEMA says any compatible cell phone tied to a participating wireless provider that is switched on and in the range of cell tower should get the alert once.
