Trump says his White House counsel not a 'RAT' like Nixon's

White House Counsel Donald Mc Gahn has reportedly been cooperating extensively with Robert Mueller's inquiry

The president has been on a tear since Saturday about a New York Times report that said McGahn spent 30 hours over nine months speaking to Mueller's prosecutors.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after a closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about Russian meddling in the election and possible connection to the Trump campaign, at the Capitol in Washington, June 21, 2017. "And his client is not Donald Trump; his client is the office of the president".

"I allowed White House Counsel Don McGahn, and all other requested members of the White House Staff, to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel".

TheTimes reported that McGahn and his lawyer were surprised by Trump's decision to allow him to talk with the special counsel and anxious it was a trick created to set up McGahn to take the blame for any possible obstruction charges.

In tweets over the weekend, Trump emphasized that he granted McGahn permission to talk with Mueller and his investigators.

Dean, a frequent critic of the president, was the White House counsel for Nixon during the Watergate scandal.

Trump referenced those interviews in his tweets Monday morning, accusing investigators of "looking for trouble" while maintaining that McGahn cooperated with his imprimatur.

His lengthy testimony - 30 hours over three voluntary interviews, according to the Times - could be crucial in determining whether the president acted with an improper, or "corrupt", intent when he took actions like firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, legal experts said.

On TV Sunday, Giuliani admitted that his knowledge of McGahn's testimony came second-hand from John Dowd, a former Trump attorney.

Simona Halep hits outrageous tweener in Cincinnati final
She won just two points en route to seeing the score tied at 4-4 and, as her lead ebbed away, so too did her stamina. Kiki Bertens held off a championship point to upset world number one Simona Halep and win the Cincinnati Masters.

Trump, meanwhile, appears to have mistakenly believed that McGahn would act as his personal attorney who would defend the president's interests.

Now, according to the NY Times, Trump's attorneys have become anxious about what all White House attorney McGahn told the special prosecutor's attorneys.

"Time for Mueller investigation to file report", Giuliani wrote on Twitter.

While McGahn says he never saw Trump go beyond his legal authorities, The New York Times says he gave investigators a mix of information both "damaging and favorable" to the president.

In several tweets, Trump complained about a New York Times story that reported McGahn opened up to special counsel Robert Mueller in a series of interviews that lasted 30 hours.

A source close to the President told Reuters on Saturday that the extent of Mr. McGahn's cooperation was "a tactical or strategic mistake" instigated by Mr. Trump's first legal team and it should not have been allowed to happen because Mr. McGahn should have been covered by executive privilege.

"When you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he's going to tell the truth and he shouldn't worry, well that's so silly because it's somebody's version of the truth".

The President also took the opportunity to jab at Mueller's now year-long investigation, which has reportedly turned up little evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials looking to sway the results of the 2016 Presidential election.

Giuliani told NBC News that if Trump had considered trying to remove Mueller that would not be criminal. "He just told the truth as he was required to".
