Netflix testing feature that will play video promos between episodes

Netflix is testing ads and people are freaking out

It is believed Netflix is now testing the ads in countries other than the United States, however, it's quite possible this could roll out to every Netflix subscriber.

Reddit users, who are presumed to be based outside of the US, complained that the service was giving them ads for other Netflix programs with no option to skip. Majority aren't adopted, a spokesperson said.

They claimed it conducts hundreds of tests per year, most of which aren't adopted.

In some of the particular case, we are testing whether surfacing recommendations between different set of episodes helps members discover stories they will enjoy faster.

For more entertainment news, HBO has confirmed a series order for Damon Lindelof's Watchmen, and Netflix is developing a new series starring Renée Zellweger. However, the company is testing promotion videos in between episodes for some users.

Google tracks users who turn off location history
Even if people have specifically disabled "Location History" on smartphones , Google apps still track and store their location . The report posits that much of this location-based tracking data may be useful to Google to drive advertising revenue.

It was first spotted by Cord Cutter News and reported by TechCrunch, highlighting that Netflix is promoting its own and other shows in between episodes.

Streaming media fans who are paying an ever-increasing rate for their Netflix subscriptions may be in for a bit of a rude awakening if they are chosen to be part of the latest streaming service focus group. Since then, we have been experimenting even more with video based on personalized recommendations for shows and movies on the service or coming shortly, and continue to learn from our members. The user has the opportunity to skip this trailer, which auto-plays after a certain period of time, but otherwise the service is free of extraneous promotional content.

The streaming giant has confirmed that while it's true some users have been included in a test for the feature, it has moved to dispell rumours that the ads are unskippable or for products other than Netflix original content. The promo displaced the usual card previewing the next episode in the series, and recommended featured content, much in the way Netflix now does on its home page. They can be skipped.

This test is now live for a small percentage of Netflix's global audience. Leave us a comment and let us know where you saw them and where you are located.
