Actress Asia Argento Reportedly Paid Off Sexual Assault Accuser

Asia Argento Arranged Deal With Sexual Assault Accuser – Report

Harvey Weinstein accuser and outspoken voice of the #MeToo movement Asia Argento has handled her own sexual assault case on the down-low, making an arrangement to pay Jimmy Bennett, who accused her of sexually assaulting him in 2013.

The pair met in 2004 when Argento cast Bennett, then just 7, to play her son in "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things".

Asia Argento speaks about being raped by Harvey Weinstein during the closing ceremony of the 71st global film festival, Cannes, southern France. That post and others were included with the notice of intent, along with three photos apparently taken by Mr. Bennett that depict him and Ms. Argento in bed, their unclothed torsos exposed.

Argento, who was dating celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain before his death, was one of the first actresses to accuse disgraced Miramax producer Weinstein of sexual assault in October a year ago.

The document lays out Mr. Bennett's account: Ms. Argento asked the family member to leave so she could be alone with the actor.

Newly released documents, first obtained by the New York Times, reveal that she settled the claim out of court for $380,000. She did not reply to messages left on her phone, sent by email and sent to two of her agents, who agreed to forward them to her. Carrie Goldberg, her lawyer who handled the matter, read email messages from The Times, according to two people familiar with the case, but she has not responded.

A letter to Argento from Goldberg said that the money was to help Bennett.

Lawyers for Argento and Bennett agreed to a deal in which Argento would pay him $380,000 over a year-and-a-half, beginning last April, according to report. "In the coming days", Sattro wrote in an email, "Jimmy will continue doing what he has been doing over the past months and years, focusing on his music".

Producer and New York Times op-ed writer Wajahat Ali was also adamant that "Whatever happens in the Asia Argento case doesnt take away from the fact Harvey Weinstein and many powerful men have preyed upon women, abused them, exploited them and have had their sins covered and buried, but now society is waking up and saying no more".

His notice of intent to sue sought $3.5 million in damages for "intentional infliction of emotional distress, lost wages, assault and battery", the paper said.
