Lindsay Whalen To Retire From WNBA after 2018 Season

Lynx point guard Lindsay Whalen retiring from WNBA at end of 2018 season

With AP Photos.Minnesota Lynx star Lindsay Whalen will retire from the WNBA at the end of the season.

Whalen has played 15 years in the league, the past nine with her hometown Lynx.

The former University of Minnesota star already has her next job lined up, having agreed in April to coach the women's basketball team at her alma mater.

Sunday is the final day of the WNBA regular season and when the Lynx will honor Whalen's career.

By 2011, the Lynx had won their first of four WNBA titles.

Rail fares inflation measure falls to 3.2%
The rise means the average commuter will pay £2,980 for their season ticket - up by £786 compared to 2010. It comes in lower than last year's rise of 3.6%, which was the highest increase for five years.

"I would like to announce that after 15 seasons in the WNBA I am going to retire after the 2018 season", Whalen said in a statement.

It's a story that begins in Minnesota, where the Hutchison native burst on the scene by leading the University of Minnesota Gophers to their first Final Four in 2004. The Hutchinson, Minnesota, native played her first six seasons with CT before being traded to the Lynx in 2010.

She's retiring as the WNBA's all-time wins leader with 322.

Her retirement wasn't entirely unexpected.

At 1:30 p.m., a news conference will be held at Mayo Clinic Square in downtown Minneapolis, which will be simulcast on Fox Sports North and on NBA TV. She's also a four-time WNBA champion. In the playoffs, Whalen has an additional 335 assists. They've already clinched a playoff spot with a 17-14 record, so it's possible Whalen helps Minnesota to one last WNBA championship before all is said and done.
