Iran naval drills send message to US

Iran tests ballistic missile for first time this year: report | TheHill

Iran test-fired a short-range anti-ship ballistic missile last week during its naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, a US official told reporters Friday in Washington DC.

According to the officials, the anti-ship Fateh-110 Mod 3 flew over 100 miles on a flight path over the Strait of Hormuz to a test range in the Iranian desert.

Three officials told Fox News that the launch, which occurred alongside a public military demonstration by Iran's forces but has not been officially acknowledged, was picked up by USA spy satellites and demonstrated Iran's short-range ballistic missile capabilities.

For the first time in more than a year, Iran test-fired an Iranian Fateh-110 ballistic missile in a brazen display of defiance. The officials said Iran has historically carried out a ballistic missile firing as part of the exercise, so last week's missile launch was consistent with that pattern.

Iran's Khamenei rejects Trump offer of talks, chides government over economy
Analysts say USA hostility, including its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposition of sanctions, helped fuel the run on Iran's rial.

The exercise had raised concerns at the Pentagon because it appeared to be held on short notice months before it would have typically occurred in the fall.

If confirmed, this represents the first such launch by Iran's since March 2017 and comes as US President Donald Trump brought back the punishing sanctions after unilaterally pulling out of a landmark 2015 deal between Tehran and Western powers to halt Iran's nuclear ambitions.

About 75 small boats participated in the exercise practicing "swarm" maneuvers that could be carried out against commercial or military warships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.

'We recognize what is going on, and we still can protect ourselves by pursuing our objectives of freedom of navigation and freedom of trade in the worldwide waters, ' the leadership of the US Army claimed.
