INTERNATIONAL - Trump's SC pick's confirmation hearing in September

Brett Kavanaugh

Republicans did not request those documents, arguing they were irrelevant to his nomination, but did ask for documents from Kavanaugh's time in the White House counsel. Democrats have warned that Kavanaugh may be unwilling to protect special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible coordination between President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian Federation.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Senate confirmation hearings will start on September 4 and last between three and four days, Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) announced on Friday. He's met with dozens of senators who have nothing but positive things to say.

Kavanaugh will face questions Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by testimony from and legal experts and people who know the judge.

Grassley, R-Iowa, said there's "plenty of time" to review documents but now it's time for Americans "to hear directly" from Kavanaugh.

The chairman said the committee still expects to receive hundreds of thousands of additional pages of documents.

If he is confirmed, Kavanaugh would take over the seat vacated by Anthony Kennedy, who retired at the end of July.

Moderate exercise has positive effect on mental health, study says
For people who had previously been diagnosed with depression, exercise was associated with 3.75 fewer days of poor mental health. The greatest mental health benefits were associated with 45 minutes of exercise between three and five times per week.

Grassley has previously said Kavanaugh's vetting process is probably the "deepest dive" ever conducted on a Supreme Court nominee.

"Every day, Republican obstruction of Kavanaugh's record gets worse and worse", said Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader on Thursday.

Kavanaugh was nominated on July 9 and since then, the committee has received 184,000 pages of records related to his work as a White House lawyer and for his work with Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr. The committee acknowledged that the Bush screening team decided which records to disclose for public review, a move panned by Democrats.

In 2016, Senate Republicans refused to hold confirmation hearings for President Barack Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court, Merrick Garland, believing that the Supreme Court vacancy occurred too close to the election.

"Scheduling a hearing in early September, while more than 99 percent of Kavanaugh's records are still unavailable, is not only unprecedented but a new low in Republican efforts to stack the courts", said California Senator Dianne Feinstein, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Democrats are particularly pushing for access to his three years as staff secretary for Bush, but Republicans are not including those documents in the review.

White House spokesperson Raj Shah said that "Chairman Grassley has lived up to his promise to lead an open, transparent and fair process".
