Carmelo Anthony May Come Off the Bench in Houston

Daryl Morey Carmelo Anthony Rockets

Anthony retained $25.4 million of his original salary this coming season, according to ESPN.

Houston general manager Daryl Morey announced the signing on Monday (NZT Tuesday) with the Rockets posting a picture on social media of Anthony signing his contract.

United States basketball star Carmelo Anthony has signed a one-year US$2.4 million (NZ$3.7m) deal with the Houston Rockets. In going to the Rockets, who won an NBA-best 65 regular-season games previous year, Anthony likely will be coming off the bench, the report stated.

However, two weeks have passed since Anthony cleared waivers and he is yet to sign a contract with the Rockets, despite the fact he's been connected with the franchise nearly all the offseason.

Anthony now gets another chance at a title run with new star teammates Paul and Harden, with the latter recently sounding thrilled to welcome the 34-year-old Anthony into the fray. All in all, he'll make $2.4 million in Houston to reach the $27.9 million he was originally owed.

Houston finished the 2017-18 regular season with a 65-17 overall record, which landed them the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference before they came just one win shy of the NBA Finals.

Last season at the Thunder alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George, Melo only averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in 2017-18, one of his worst seasons in the National Basketball Association to date. In 1,054 career games played, he is averaging 24.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.02 steals.
