Shark Teeth 25 Million Years Old Found By Amateur in Australia

Great Jagged Narrow Toothed Shark teeth found in Australia

He did not know it at the time, but the tooth he uncovered once belonged in the mouth of a 25-million-year-old giant shark that was twice the size of a great white.

The almost three-inch-long teeth belonged to a now-extinct ferocious shark, aptly named the great jagged narrow-toothed shark, which is a smaller cousin of the famous megalodon shark, the subject of the new movie.

According to reports, an amateur fossil enthusiast named Philip Mullaly recently found teeth that belonged to a Carcharocles angustidens, a shark that lived between 33 to 22 million years ago, and was twice the size of a modern great white. This shark grew up to 30 feet (9 m) in length, was the top predator and would have preyed on small whales.

The citizen scientist ended up pulling a 2.7-inch-long (7 centimeters) out of the boulder and took it to Museums Victoria for authentication.

Japan's economy grows annualized 1.9 pc in Q2
Private consumption, which accounts for about 60 per cent of the economy, was the biggest contributor, rising 0.7 per cent on brisk demand for cars and home appliances, the data showed.

The recently found fossilized mega-shark teeth were dated 25-million-year-old and are now on display at the Melbourne Museum until October 7th.

After his initial find, Mullaly worked with a team from the Museums Victoria, the organization that administrates the Melbourne Museum, to uncover nearly 40 teeth in total between December 2017 and January 2018.

Secondly, these rare fossils are among a handful of ancient shark teeth to have been found as a set.

"If you think about how long we've been looking for fossils around the world as a civilization-which is maybe 200 years-in (that time) we have found just three (sets of) fossils of this kind on the entire planet, and this most recent find from Australia is one of those three", Fitzgerald told CNN. What likely happened is that as the narrow-toothed shark died in the waters off of Jan Juc, the sixgill sharks descended upon the remains and had a feast, leaving some teeth behind. Although the team found evidence that there was only one megashark there, they found indications that there were several different sixgill sharks on the scene. However, Fitzgerald said that finding multiple teeth from a single shark is extremely rare. "The stench of blood and decaying flesh would have drawn scavengers from far around", Museums Victoria palaeontologist Tim Ziegler said in a statement.
