Magic to face Bulls, Jazz in Mexico City in December

Aaron Gordon

The full slate for Fred Hoiberg's fourth season with the Bulls is still not out, but he does know that one of his games will be worldwide.

Now the Bulls will be taking their talents to Mexico City to play in a game against the Orlando Magic.

It's an interesting slate of games, especially given that both the Bulls and Magic are expected to be among the worst teams in the Eastern Conference.

Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel notes that the DeVos family - owners of the Magic franchise and co-founders of Amway - had a hand in Orlando's decision to play in Mexico City. They'll face the Magic, considered the home team, on December 13 at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico. It will mark the Magic's first games in Mexico City since the 2013 season.

"Having played in England twice, Japan, China, Mexico and Brazil, the Orlando Magic are always honored to participate in the NBA's Global Games and look forward to again representing the Central Florida community and the NBA", Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a press release. It certainly helps in relation to the promotion of our ownership's interests in Amway, and that's certainly the case with Mexico City as Mexico is a growing market for the Amway Corporation. The game will be broadcast live by ESPN.

The NBA Mexico City Games 2018 will be supported by a full roster of marketing partners, including Nike, SAP, Gatorade and Tissot with additional partners to be announced in the coming months.

Chicago Bulls President and COO Michael Reinsdorf released a statement about today's news.

The Orlando Magic will face off against the Chicago Bulls on December 13 before taking on the Utah Jazz two days later on December 15.

It will be the fourth time the Jazz plays in Mexico, the first time in 15 years. "Our organization thanks the National Basketball Association and the people of Mexico City for this unique opportunity".

Kudos to the league for making the right moves and doing so with the right team.
