Video shows deadly shooting over parking spot

WATCH ‘Stand your ground’ law protects shooter in fatal dispute over a parking spot sheriff says

He circled Jacob's auto, looking for a handicap decal and, finding none, proceeded to forcefully explain to her the finer points of Florida's disabled parking regulations.

Police say a Florida man was shot and killed over a parking space. She was approached by Drejka, and the two argued over the handicap space. Surveillance video shows Markeis McGlockton leave the store to defend his girlfriend and shove Drejka hard to the ground.

Prior to Gualtieri's announcement Friday, Jacobs told the newspaper that McGlockton died from a "wrongful death" as a result of Drejka's actions. McGlockton fell to the ground inside the store and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigators said multiple people witnessed the shooting and called 911.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that on Thursday in the town of Pinellas, a man named Michael Drejka approached Britany Jacobs' auto to tell her she was parked in a handicapped spot and needed to move. But Gualtieri said Drejka told deputies that he was he was in fear of being attacked again.

Florida's "stand your ground" law allows the use of deadly force in the name of self-defense. "It's messed up. Markeis is a good man ... he was just protecting us, you know?" His killer was not charged due to Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law.

"I'm not saying I agree with it, but I don't make that call", Gualtieri told reporters, adding that his agency will now forward the case to the State Attorney's Office for a final decision. 'And it hurts so bad'.

Toward the end of the press conference, Gualtieri said the law has a range and that his department must work with the evidence it has and enforce the law.

McGlockton stumbled into the store covered in blood after the shooting, Jacobs' told the Times. Police say the argument became "heated" but did not involve any threats. It's also the same thing that Michael Drejka was upset about Thursday when he was yelling at a woman in the parking lot. Jacobs parked in the handicap spot, she said, because the parking lot was busy and they were just stopping for a minute.
