Michael Cohen Tape Suggests Team Trump Lied About Karen McDougal

Trump attorneys waive privilege on Cohen's secret recordings report

"Inconceivable that the government would break into a lawyer's office (early in the morning) - nearly unheard of", Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

The question of when Trump was a client and when he was a partner in other business is what occupies a special master at the moment, assigned to look through the records seized from Cohen in the earlier raid.

Shortly after the tape was released, Donald Trump tweeted that "Your favorite President" did nothing wrong.

Giuliani said no campaign funding was involved in the discussion between Trump and Cohen, who has distanced himself from Trump in recent months as the FBI investigates Cohen's business dealings.

Cohen then proposed that Trump buy the rights to "control" the inflammatory story, according to multiple people familiar with the exchange. He also claimed that nothing in the tape shows that Trump "had any knowledge of it in advance". Team Trump actually contacted the Judge and waived the privilege, thus, permitting Rudy (Giuliani) the ability to release his version of the tape's content.

In a statement Friday, President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani confirmed the recording's existence and said no payment was ever made.

When The Wall Street Journal reported on AMI's payments to McDougal days before the election, the Trump campaign denied knowing about them.

The tabloid sat on the story, preventing it from being made public in a practice known as "catch and kill".

NY law allows one party to a conversation to tape it without the other knowing.

Although Trump charged in his tweet that the Federal Bureau of Investigation broke into Cohen's office, the agency was executing court-approved warrants in conducting the searches.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane, reporting from Washington, DC, said, that Trump's statement that the government would broke into a lawyer's office was inaccurate.

This comes as The New York Times reported Cohen secretly recorded the president in 2016 when he was still the GOP nominee. Cohen has not been charged with any crime.

Earlier this year, in an interview with CNN, McDougal detailed what she said was a 10-month affair she had with Trump in 2006 and 2007. Mr Trump had also told Mr Cohen that, if he did make a payment, to do it by cheque not cash, so it could be properly recorded.

"If Donald Trump knew that Michael Cohen was going to be making payments on his behalf, or others were going to be making payments on his behalf, in order to influence the 2016 election, that may in fact constitute evidence of direct campaign finance violations which can be criminal in nature", he said. It was not immediately clear where Trump and Cohen were located at the time of the call.

"Obviously, there is an ongoing investigation and we are sensitive to that", Davis said. It was later revealed that the White House may have leaked the tape.
