Facebook is no doubt keen to let the Cambridge Analytica scandal fade into history, but its problems with third-party companies and data misuse continue.

The firm, Crimson Hexagon, boasts an impressive list of blue chip clients and claims to have collected more than 1tn public social media posts from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, and other sources.

On Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported that it alerted Facebook to Crimson Hexagon's business dealings with a Russian nonprofit organization-the Civil Society Development Foundation-with ties to the Kremlin. In addition, Crimson Hexagon had contracts with the US government and a non-profit company connected to the Kremlin.

Facebook told the outlet it wasn't aware of some the firm's contracts and that it plans to meet with a team from Crimson Hexagon within the next few days to look into the issue.

In light of all the headaches that Cambridge Analytica brought to the social media leader, it is little surprise that it is now extra careful with third-party apps, especially those connected to analytics companies.

Facebook said it has not yet found any evidence that Crimson Hexagon obtained data improperly but it has suspended the company while it conducts its investigation. "We take these allegations seriously, and have suspended these apps while we investigate".

Still reeling from the fallout of the Cambridge Analytica flap, Facebook may have a redux on its hands.

The revisions have wide-reaching implications, including for how the federal government would protect species from climate change. Environmentalists point to species including grizzly bears and red-legged frogs, which have rebounded since the law's passage.

"We are investigating the claims about Crimson Hexagon to see if they violated any of our policies", Ime Archibong, Facebook " s Vice President of Product Partnerships, said in a statement.

Facebook acknowledged this month that it was facing multiple inquiries from U.S. and British regulators about a scandal involving the British consultancy Cambridge Analytica. He noted that the Facebook data accessed by Cambridge Analytica was private.

This meant the company was able to mine the information of 87 million Facebook users even though just 270,000 people gave them permission to do so.

Users of Crimson Hexagon's platform, which include government customers, analyze the data to understand large-scale consumer trends and preferences, Bingham wrote.

"Government entities that leverage the Crimson Hexagon platform do so for the same reasons as many of our other non-government customers: a broad-based and aggregate understanding of the public's perception, preferences and sentiment about matters of concern to them", he wrote. He added that the company allows firms like Crimson Hexagon to produce "anonymized insights for business purposes".

As well as government work, Crimson Hexagon has had deals with commercial companies including Adidas, Samsung and the BBC.

But the stock performance was overshadowed by news late Friday that Facebook had suspended Crimson Hexagon, pending an investigation.
