Arnold Schwarzenegger Calls Trump A "Little Wet Noodle" After Putin Conference

Archaeologists find remains of flatbread that predates agriculture by 4,000 years

After meeting with Russian President Vladmir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, Trump stated that he didn't "see any reason why it would be" Russia that had meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

During an interview with CBS News' Jeff Glor on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Trump said that he would consider Mr Putin personally responsible for any Russian interference.

In Helsinki, as Putin looked on, Trump said the following to a question about whether he believed United States intelligence agencies, or Putin's denials of interference: "My people came to me ... they said they think it's Russian Federation".

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer said Trump needed to wake up to Russia's efforts to interfere in American elections.

"The president was flat out wrong", Michael Morell, former deputy and acting director of the Central Intelligence Agency said about Trump's remarks after the Cabinet meeting.

"In a key sentence in my remarks I said the word "would" instead of "wouldn't", he said.

Republican Senator John McCain accused Trump of "playing right into Putin's hands" with the president's comments in a Fox News interview on Tuesday that appeared to question the American commitment to defend all North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies. "We're taking steps, we're making bold reforms to try to fix this and make sure it never happens again because we take it seriously and because we recognise that our election systems are incredibly important and is certainly a cornerstone of our democracy", the presidential advisor said.

Sanders said that Trump has described Putin's offer as "an interesting idea" and "he wants to work with his team and determine if there is any validity that would be helpful to the process".

Trump made the comment Wednesday while answering questions during a Cabinet meeting.

Asked by reporters at the start of a Cabinet meeting whether Russian Federation is still targeting the U.S., President Trump shook his head and said "no".

"My people came to me - Dan Coats came to me, some others - they said they think it's Russia", Trump said, referring to the director of national intelligence and the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

One current U.S. diplomat, who said he was "at a f-- loss", called the development a step back in United States diplomacy, according to The Daily Beast. The Magnitsky Act targets certain Russian officials and business leaders linked to human-rights abuses with sanctions. Then on Tuesday, Trump backpedaled and said he misspoke. The president also answered questions after saying "no". In short, he took Mr Putin's side against his own country. "He recognises the fact that 90 per cent of the world's nuclear weapons are under the direction of the U.S. and Russian Federation", she said.

On Tuesday, Trump read from a printed statement, and said he had misspoken in Helsinki.

Democrats say the woman who translated for Trump - and the notes she likely took - could provide critical information about the meeting.

Trump, by contrast, has come under widespread domestic criticism about the meeting both from Democratic opponents and senior Republicans. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Chris Coons, D-Del., will try to force a vote Thursday on a resolution backing the intelligence community's findings that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election and must be held accountable.

POTUS was immediately questioned on whether he had raised Russia's meddling in the U.S. election, and he pivoted to a weird rant about Hillary Clinton and the ongoing independent counsel investigation into his campaign's alleged collusion with Russian Federation.

The White House on Wednesday declined to rule out accepting a Russian proposal for the questioning in the United States of Americans sought by the Kremlin for "illegal activities", including a former USA ambassador to Moscow.
