Blizzard rolls all of World of Warcraft's expansions into the subscription fee

Blizzard does away with World of Warcraft Battle Chest pricing

As the site's sales pitch says: "Get access to World of Warcraft and every expansion through Legion with your subscription-no additional purchase required". It's a slightly better deal for new players, though given how cheap the Battle Chest would go on sale it may end up being slightly more expensive for some. This means that for the usual price of $14.99 per month, players can now access all of World of Warcraft's previously released content without having to make separate purchases. The current price-tag allows players to build their character to level 110 without having to make any additional purchases, however it's now unclear if this will be a permanent price drop. From now on, all the expansions come "free" with a monthly subscription.

"In Battle for Azeroth, the stakes for the Alliance and the Horde are incredibly high, and a player's faction will have a more meaningful impact on their experience than in any World of Warcraft expansion to date", said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. This new model, while it will probably annoy all the players who already bought the expansions, will lower the barrier of entry for new players. Well, it's still releasing the expansions - including the upcoming Battle for Azeroth expansion - and is showing no signs of stopping, but gamers don't have to buy any actual games. It's out on 14 August 2018, though the pre-patch is available right now. "As this age-old conflict reignites, join your allies and champion your faction's cause-Azeroth's future will be forged in the fires of war".
