Trump questions U.S. intel, not Putin, on Russia 2016 meddling

Меланія Трамп одягнулась не за погодою

Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin began a historic summit today vowing their determination to forge a reset of troubled relations between the world's greatest nuclear powers. He called it "nonsense" and insisted the Russian state had never interfered and would never interfere in the American electoral process.

The two leaders will hold a joint news conference after the meeting, where the men will ostensibly give details of what they spoke about.

The joint press conference took place after the two leaders met alone - without advisers or staff members - for more than two hours in Helsinki, Finland, longer than the 90 minutes the Trump administration had initially scheduled. "Because he talked about bringing the US-Russia relationship back to normal".

But Trump defended meeting with Putin, saying: "I will do what is best for the American people".

Russian officials say Putin is expected to reiterate denials of meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

What has United States reaction been? "We have to start to set them right".

Putin said that Trump had asked him about 12 Russian intelligence agents indicted in Mueller's investigation on Friday and that he would "look into it". Here is some of what he has said and how those statements stand up to the facts.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from SC, who has had a closer working relationship with Trump on issues related to health care and tax reform, tweeted that the summit was a "missed opportunity". Why was the Federal Bureau of Investigation told to leave the office of the Democratic National Committee. "I think it's a disgrace that we can't get Hillary Clinton's 33,000 emails". John McCain was most outspoken, declaring that Trump made a "conscious choice to defend a tyrant" and achieved "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory." Sen.

He made it clear that, in return, Russian Federation would want similar access to people in the U.S. it suspects of criminal activity. At one point, he shot Putin a wink.

Mr. Trump's US opponents tried, in turn, to gain traction for the sarcastic hashtag lampooning his reluctance to criticise the Kremlin: #BAF (Blame America First). He visibly seemed happier with Mr Putin's assurances than he did with the evidence of his own intelligence agencies. And he even welcomed Mr Putin's suggestion that Russian Federation could join the investigation and interview the alleged perpetrators itself!

Danish defense minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen said North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies "live with the uncertainty", of how Trump operates, triggering other leaders to question whether he has any type of strategy at all.

In response, President Donald Trump said that an investigation into Moscow's alleged meddling in his election had been a "disaster" for the United States.

"Neither did he mention the Russian meddling in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea". The president's equivocation drew bipartisan condemnation, capping a week in which Trump alienated allies and cozied up to adversaries. We have another point of view. that a referendum was held in accordance with worldwide law. "So we have an interest of questioning them".

After the Helsinki summit, at least two senators - Republican Pat Toomey and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer - raised the possibility of imposing new punishment on Russian Federation.

"Frankly, we have not been getting along for the last number of years".

He asked whether Trump "with the whole world watching" would "denounce" Russia's actions and warn Putin to never do it again.
