Roger Stone: I'm Probably The Unnamed Person In The New Mueller Indictment

Trump has repeatedly expressed skepticism about Russian involvement in the hacking while being accused by Democrats of cozying up to the Russian president

The indictment represents special counsel Robert Mueller's first charges against Russian government officials for interfering in American politics, an effort US intelligence agencies say was aimed at helping the Trump campaign and harming Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

"I think it is bad news for Roger Stone that his interaction with Guccifer 2.0 was recited in the indictment even though he was not named in the indictment", Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor who is now at the law firm Rottenberg Lipman Rich, told ABC News on Friday. "Could the special counsel, who has no oversight whatsoever, conjure up some other bogus offense in an attempt to silence me or to pressure me to testify against President Trump, who I've known for 39 years?"

On Friday, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters pointed out that there was no allegation in the document unveiled by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that any Americans knew they were corresponding with Russians or that any U.S. citizen had committed a crime.

President Trump said he would address the issue, though it's unclear how much he will prioritize it compared with other matters, such as seeking Mr. Putin's help in Syria and other hot spots.

Unit 74455, also known as the Main Centre for Special Technology, engineered the release of the stolen documents through a website it created called DCLeaks and the online persona Guccifer 2.0, according to the indictment.

"This is just one more case of political malpractice", he said.

Buried in today's indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers for their role in hacking the DNC and Clinton campaign, is a small paragraph which clearly implicates a 2016 Congressional candidate.

US accuses North Korea of breaching UN sanctions…

Theresa May Says Trump Advised Her to Sue the EU
May also said that Trump advised her not to walk away from negotiations altogether, a piece of counsel she does agree with. That has infuriated fervent Brexit supporters, who see it as a bad deal.

This indictment of 12 Russian GRU agents comes after an earlier indictment of 13 Russian nationals who were found working with the Kremlin-linked Internet Research Agency - which is also accused of influencing the USA presidential election.

He said there was no evidence that the hacking changed any vote count.

It follows pressure on Mr Trump to cancel Monday's talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin following the indictment of 12 Russians on Friday. There was, however, a glaring absence of any condemnation of Russia's action by Trump, despite the fact that his job primarily involves the defense of American sovereignty and democracy'. The affected groups include the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.

But he simultaneously denounced the Mueller investigation as a "rigged witch hunt", and said he has been "tougher on Russian Federation than anybody".

"The internet allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways", Rosenstein said.

But in a second revelation that journalist and Russia scandal expert Marcy Wheeler called "by far the most alarming and potentially important detail" in the indictment, Mueller revealed for the first time that the Russian cyber-spies stole more than internal emails. He initially served as an adviser to Trump's 2016 campaign but left amid controversy in 2015. In the face of near-universal consensus among US intelligence agencies on Guccifer 2.0's links to the GRU, Stone's denials may suggest anxiety about future findings by Robert Mueller's investigation.

Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, said she is "encouraged that the Justice Department is making progress in their effort to crack down on Russian interference in our election process".
