Historic Cape Canaveral Launch Towers Imploded

Watch: Demolition of twin towers at Cape Canaveral's historic Launch Complex 17

- A small crowd gathered cheered Thursday morning as an explosion brought down the twin towers that marked Space Launce Complex 17.

"Fire in the hole!" announced Brig. "At the same time, it is the final closure of the Complex 17 book, and with that, a little melancholy".

A short ceremony was held before Brigadier-General Wayne Monteith, commander of the air force's 45th Space Wing, triggered the explosives. Now the complex's historic launch towers have been demolished to make space for something new.

The demolitions comes about seven years after the complex hosted its last launch.

Macron headed into the team changing room to celebrate the win, being filmed "dabbing" with bare-chested defender Benjamin Mendy. But Macron saw it coming, laying traps for Russia's troll farm in the form of fake emails and documents.

The $2 million demolition project had been in the works since then. Opportunity remains active today.

One more Delta II launch remains, planned this September from California. Its first two attempts to launch Thor missiles in 1957 ended in failure, however, as did other attempts in the complexs 61-year history.

For that reason, the launch complex's owners have made a decision to get rid of the towers to make room for something new: a new launch site for startup Moon Express, which was one of the finalists in Google's Lunar XPrize.

The complex, and its towers, was originally built in 1956 for use with the PGM-17 Thor missile, the first operational ballistic missile the US possessed, according to NASA. Download the 10News app now.
