Donald Trump's Brexit advice to Theresa May

Farage Backs Trump on NATO ‘Freeloaders’ Warns EU Is Real Threat to Alliance’s Future AFP 12 Jul 2018

Trump said: "The relationship between our two nations is indispensable to the cause of liberty, justice, and peace".

British Prime Minister Theresa May and U.S. President Donald Trump will have a positive discussion on future trade ties, despite the latter's criticism of May's Brexit plan, British Finance Minister Philip Hammond said on Friday.

Yesterday, Trump fanned the flames by giving Rupert Murdoch's Sun tabloid an exclusive interview where he blasted May's policies and threatened to take a U.S-U.K trade deal off the table over the Brexit development.

Nigel Farage was questioned on whether he had "wound up" Mr Trump about Brexit on BBC's This Week and said: 'We've had the odd chat about it, I like to have a chat with them (Team Trump)'.

Some Conservative lawmakers have cast May's "business-friendly" Brexit plan as a betrayal that would leave Britain too close to the European Union and warned that she might face a leadership challenge.

While he spoke highly of Johnson, he also heaped praise on May, calling her an "incredible woman" who is "doing a fantastic job".

"I think the [European Union trade] deal she is striking is not the one people voted on, exactly".

"We're going to make sure that doesn't happen", Hoey said. However, under the blue skies of the Chequers' garden, he said their relationship was "the highest level of special".

"It's called fake news", Mr Trump declared.

Trump claims victory on NATO spending row
Trump later tweeted and also confirmed during a press conference in Brussels that 4% percent should indeed be the ultimate target. He said the allies had confirmed their intention to meet the goal of 2 per cent by 2024 and no more .

"The people voted to break it up, so I would imagine that is what they would do, but maybe they are taking a different route - I don't know if that is what they voted for", he said.

"If you reported them that's good", Mr Trump told the political correspondent.

"She said: 'Don't worry it's only the press.' I thought that was very professional".

The president said: "The only thing I ask of Theresa is that we make sure we can trade and we don't have any restrictions because we want to trade with the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom wants to trade with us".

Trump's remarks to the Sun were the most biting any U.S. president has ever made on a visit to Britain. It was one of the more than 100 demonstrations planned during his four-day stay.

And in comments sure to infuriate his host, he said Boris Johnson would make a "great" Prime Minister. I think she's doing a terrific job.

After leaving the Chequers, Trump travelled to Windsor Castle to have tea with Queen Elizabeth.

"I love the United States but I love getting along with Russian Federation and China and other countries".

Arriving straight from a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit that was predictably contentious, the U.S. president has been greeted with massive protests on his first trip to London since taking office.
