Trump blasts Brexit plan amid protests

Donald Trump speaks to reporters on the South Lawn before boarding Marine One and departing the White House

Donald Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday for his first visit as United States president, flying into a whirlwind of protests.

Khan said that on Saturday there will also be far-right and pro-Trump demonstrations taking place.

Donald Trump, Melania Trump and and French President's wife Brigitte Macron (L) walk prior to attend a working dinner at The Parc du Cinquantenaire - Jubelpark Park in Brussels on July 11, 2018, during the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit. His remarks on Brexit came the same day May's government published long-awaited proposals for Britain's relations with the European Union after it leaves the bloc next year.

Trump said it made him feel "unwelcome". "I just want the people to be happy".

Trump, who has linked his own election to the June 2016 referendum in which a majority of British voters supported leaving the European Union, complained, "The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one the people voted on".

Asked about Trump's comments, May said: "We're delivering on the vote of the British people to take back control of our money, our laws and our borders".

Donald Trump appeared to crush Theresa May's trade deal hopes this morning.

Trump also said former foreign minister Boris Johnson, who resigned this week in protest over the plan, would make "a great prime minister".

May is trying to unify her deeply divided Conservative Party behind her Brexit plans with some of her own lawmakers openly speaking of a leadership challenge.

"He's looking forward to meeting Melania", May said of her husband, The Sunday Times reported "He has been out and bought a new suit".

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership".

It also seems that Trump and his entourage saw the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation visit as a sales opportunity.

The balloon was authorised by Khan, who has crossed swords with Trump several times after the president posted factually incorrect messages over a series of terror attacks in Britain in 2017.

I'm pleased to see the dual lens control so I can choose which camera to use with my wide-angle lens I bought earlier this year. Instead of allowing developers to create apps for the iPhone, Jobs wanted them to create web apps that would work on the phone.

"I believe that the people in the UK - Scotland, Ireland, as you know I have property in Ireland, I have property all over - I think that those people they like me a lot and they agree with me on immigration". "I get along with her very nicely".

"I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London", Trump told The Sun.

Trump's interview easily could overshadow the government's attempt to lay out plans for what it calls a "principled and pragmatic" Brexit.

Despite the protests, Trump insisted ahead of his trip to the United Kingdom that he was well-liked in the country.

In an interview, Trump lashed out at Khan, who has allowed a Trump protest balloon to float above Westminster during the president's visit.

On Thursday night, hundreds of demonstrators chanted outside the US ambassador's residence in London, where Trump was staying, providing a preview of the forceful protests expected Friday.

A campaign is also underway to get "American Idiot", a 2004 song by the US punk rock band Green Day, to the top of the UK Singles Chart.

Anti-Trump protesters lined the roadway leading to the palace near Oxford - but it's unlikely the Trumps even saw them.

May will host a black-tie dinner for Trump there, attended by senior ministers and about 100 business leaders, including from Blackstone group, Blackrock, Diageo, McLaren and Arup.

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders had told the British government about the interview in advance, "but thought it would be somewhat more positive", the newspaper quoted an official as saying.

During the talks, they are expected to discuss Russia, Brexit and the Middle East.

While Trump's trip was not the full state visit he was originally promised, he was heralded by military bands on his arrival in the country and at Blenheim, and he is scheduled on Friday to have tea with Queen Elizabeth.

It was just the latest instance of Mr Trump, "who cosies up to foreign strongmen like Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, insulting or criticising an allied leader", Mr Collinson said.
