NBA Free Agent Rumors: Isaiah Thomas Agrees To Contract With Nuggets

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The two-time All-Star guard has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Denver Nuggets, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday night. After an absolutely sensational 2016-17 campaign with the Boston Celtics ended prematurely due to a hip injury, Thomas was traded to Cleveland, struggled after returning from the aforementioned injury, got traded to the Lakers at the deadline, then underwent surgery to fix his injured hip after 17 games.

When free agency began, there was a scenario where the Lakers could re-sign Thomas on a one-year deal if they struck out in free agency to preserve cap space. If Thomas can return halfway to his 2016-17 form, the Nuggets could be very unsafe next season.

After missing those the first 36 games of last season, Thomas returned to average 14.7 points and 4.5 assists in 15 games (14 starts). He was traded to Cleveland last summer along with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and a pair of picks for Kyrie Irving.

If Cohen agrees to cooperate, whatever relevant information he could provide would likely be shared with Mueller's team. Sullivan agreed to the delay Tuesday, saying he didn't want to "micromanage" Flynn's cooperation with prosecutors.

Thomas will reunite with Michael Malone, who coached him with the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings selected Thomas in the second round (60th overall) in the 2011 draft out of the University of Washington. Second-year pro Jamal Murray started at point guard for them last season, scoring 16.7 points per game. Over his seven-year career, he is averaging 18.9 points and 5.1 assists.
